Eight suicide bombers targeted hotels and Catholic churches in a series of bombings a week ago today (last Easter 21st).
They bombed St. Anthony's Church in Kochikade, St. Sebastian's Church in Katuwapitiya, Zion Church in Batticaloa and the Shangri-La, Kingsbury and Cinnamon Grand hotels in Colombo. Two other bombers killed themselves in Dematagoda and Dehiwala.
270 lives were lost and around 500 were injured in this series of attacks. Among them were the innocent people who went to worship God, little children, the elderly and the disabled.
Parents lost their children and children lost their parents because the government did not take steps to prevent it despite the fact that the Indian intelligence agencies informed the government and all the security forces. Many others were killed and disabled. Adding to the scandal abroad, even foreigners lost their lives.
All these factors will have a negative impact on the tourism industry and will undoubtedly cause further collapse of the country's economy. This is a disaster for lakhs of poor people who are affected.
Many commentators say that due to the lack of a good relationship between the President and the Prime Minister, the national security has been in danger for some time and the government should take full responsibility for this.
